Heavy Ladened

Heavenly Father,

I am weary and heavy ladened, yet not from hard work. I am lazy and don’t follow through on the things I plan to do. My burden is the guilt and shame of sloth. Take my burden and give me rest. Let my soul rest in you alone. I am constantly beset by knowledge of my shortcomings. Unnamed and unnumbered tasks and desires overwhelm me. I know that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Speak rest into my soul. Cleanse the guilt and shame. Blot out the worry and sloth. Fill me with motivation to know you better. Let me be still, not our of idleness, but to know that you are God. I don’t take care of my body or my soul. Both waste away as if in the deepest desert. Give me living water to rejuvenate my parched body and atrophied soul. Give me persistence in asking you for revival of my entire being. I long to sing out for the glorious deeds you have done. My strength fails for unless the Lord builds the city, the laborers build in vain. Therefore, I wait for you. I pray that my waiting will not last too long and that my disposition would be patient.

In the name of the one who is gentle and lowly in heart. Amen.
