Motivation

Heavenly Father,

My mind is full of things I should do. I want to do them with my intellect but not with my passions. Bring unity to my being. Give me the self-control to say no to the temptations of idleness and sin. Give me the discipline to act in ways that glorify you when I don’t feel the desire. I have experienced that obedience leads to joy and deeper communion with you. Yet my motivation is still weak and ephemeral. Strength the new man who longs for your presence and obeys your commands. Crucify the old man who longs for the temporary pleasures of the flesh. Fill me with love for you and the image bearers around me that I may fulfill the greatest commandments. Fill me with faith that enables me to do the hard things you have called me to do. Fill me with the truth that I may discern your will and approve of what is excellent. Give me an earnest desire to spend time with you so that I may gaze on your face and be transformed more and more into the image of your son.
