Prayer of Confession

Heavenly Father,

My God, my God, why have I forsaken you? You are truly God, yet I have not fully yielded my life to you. I fall into sin and even rebellion. You are the rightful king of all creation, yet I commit cosmic treason against you. Have mercy on me according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions. My sins sit before my gaze day and night. I hold tightly to them. Help me to let go of them, rip them from my grasp. Turn my heart back to yourself so that I might not sin against you. May we again be at peace as we were when I first felt your presence. End my rebellion against your will. I want to honor and respect you in my thoughts, words, and deeds. Reorder my affections that you may be first and highest in my heart. Help me to realize that the pleasures of sin are but fleeting dross. In the moment of temptation, I pray I will choose to flee into your presence. I thank you that I am forgiven, made right, and restored to fellowship with you. Free me from the shame that makes me feel unable to follow your commands. Until the day you bring me into heaven, keep me safe with you.

In the name of him who endured the cross for me. Amen.
